Blue Water Road
As a fan of Kehlani and her expression for music and taste in sound. Her new album Blue Water Road recently released April 28, 2022, I come into this album not knowing what to expect, it was gravitating and engaging with every breath. Listening to it the first time I felt composed that this was more interment with her singing. It didn’t have that let’s go out and have fun vibe, but in this case, I felt more in tune and as if she was truly expressing her emotional outlet to love, passion, hurt, and many more emotions that stuck out. This album feels like a journal coming to life with filled with emotions and tunes.
Her opening song little story sets out the album intro with much inclusion that this album will be more personal and even as one of her first singles to come out, she wraps her skills into this opener with lines that circulate to the other tracks on the album as such, “Altar.” But one of my favorite lines in that song is “I want you to pick up the pen and write me into your story.’”
Her desire for a love quarrel has many episodes and one can see this when reflecting on her track “Wish I never.” A reflection back on a love that shouldn’t have been, but she remembers that desirable sex, drives a person back at their weakest moments of touch and vulnerability. Kehlani gives back that beat taker as she did in her previous albums, “It was good Until it Wasn’t & SweetSexySavage.”
Kehlani pain in this album is admirable to hear through her voice and looking back at her albums you are seeing her growth, a fan can designate with her, but most of all a person of love can treasure this album when it comes to giving their all to one, they love and go all the way with someone and give them as her title to this song suggest your “Everything.”
Her features are not sure but great at providing vocals from Justin Bieber to SYD and even Thundercat. They each carry their way to add levels to the album that sits with the listener whether with singing or producing.
This album is beautiful in its ways and must so much to give, one can find themselves in love or so many ways can find themselves broken in their heart missing something. As a romantic view, I give it a solid 7/10 and as a person who loves Kehlani, I give her a solid 8. Her beats are mellow with the right touch to follow her soft mellow vocals that soothe the soul. But what do you give it, leave your thoughts below?
